Advertisements set the cultural standards of beauty.

Asians are a highly under represented minority. Where are we in the media? If we're not doing martial arts or fitting some other stereotype, we're invisible.

And if we are invisible in the media, then are we outside the cultural defintion of beauty?

You have a point there, the thing is living in a predominantly Caucasian society numbers set the standards for the norm. I'm saying this from a marketing point of view. Manufacturers usually would want to connect w/ their market, for assurance of sales. So they choose people from the most largest demographic. Here in Japan its the same thing even though at times companies here use holywood actors for commecials local celebrities and famous asian celebs are much prepared because the demographic here connects w/ them. even multinational companies adhere to this. The picture is great though you should seriuosly consider moving here, youre work is really great.

I see plenty of hot asians in the media, like on TV and in Magazines. I also know that most white guys have ridiculous fetishes for asian females, and find even the ones that are "ugly" by asian standards "hot", just because they are asian ;)

It could be different in Canada though, as we have a pretty high asian population, so maybe they are thought about more here.

The sad thing is, if companies don't see money in a certain demographic, then they will usually ignore it...
